Primates are often caught in the wild in far-off countries such as China, Vietnam and Mauritius, where they will never see freedom again. During trapping family units are torn apart, with monkeys being clubbed to subdue their wild instinct to escape.

Once taken to breeding centres, they are forced to give birth constantly and undercover footage shows many of these once-wild creatures in barren cage units with no stimulation. Used as little more than breeding machines, their offspring are torn from their arms ready to be sent to laboratories.

Prior to shipping, monkeys are grabbed by their tails and forced into crates. Others are restrained by their arms being twisted behing their backs, often resulting in broken limbs and sustained injuries. The crates – which are nothing more than wooden boxes - are little bigger than themselves and in these they will stay for upto sixty hours as they are shipped thousands of miles in the cargo hold of planes. One in five will die on route as a result of extreme tempratures, dehydration, suffocation or exhaustion.

When landed, their journey is not over as they are driven in the backs of vans to research laboratories. Here they will be used in all manner of experiments.

From warfare research to being poisoned in toxicology experiments these monkeys will suffer a fate worse than death. Some will be have electrodes implanted into their skulls and psychologically tormented inside, whilst others will have substances injected directly into their brains.

However, it is not only primates who are imported for vivisection. Dogs, cats, guinea-pigs, rodents and even horses are transported the many miles to die inside laboratories. Their ordeal is little different to that of the primates mentioned above.

Without the airports, airlines, ferries and customs clearers this trade would not be able to go on. They are the ones keeping these animals suffering and they are the ones we need to stop in order to shut down the trade in animals for vivisection.
