In 2010, NAVA released the findings of an investigation into the US-cargo giant Amerijet International who were, at the time, transporting primates for the American research industry.
We revealed the plight of monkeys being flown from the Caribbean island of St Kitts to Miami International Airport and the unacceptable breaches of welfare regulations by the company during such transportations.
This shocking insight into Amerijet's involvement in the primate trade revealed, for the first time, how the US Animal Welfare Act had been breached on thirteen separate occasions. Instances included primates being left without food and water for over twenty-four hours, a risk of suffocation posed due to insufficient transport crates and paperwork was wrongly filled out.
Following the investigation, an international campaign was founded and, as a result, Amerijet International will no longer transport animals for research purposes.
