2011 - EUROPEAN PRIMATE TRADE

In June 2011, NAVA was handed hundreds of pages of documents, giving a lucrative insight into the infrastructure of the European primate trade.

Memorandums, internal emails and regulatory paperwork showed the frustration of a Chinese research laboratory attempting to purchase animals from sources in the UK, Germany, Holland and USA.

It was shown how the transport of marmoset monkeys was repeatedly postponed due to transporting difficulties from an array of agents as many airlines simply refused to handle these research animals.

As a result of the investigation, one breeder ceased the future supply of primates for research purposes and ground handlers ended involvement at Frankfurt Airport, Germany.
