PROTEST HELD IN RESPONSE TO HARLAN INTERFAUNA CRUELTY ALLEGATIONS - 12/08/11

On Sunday 10th July 2011, NAVA released the first exposé in eleven years of a British laboratory animal breeding establishment in a Sunday Times exclusive.

The investigation, named 'Born to Die', contained photographs and the testimonial of a former-employee at Harlan Laboratories who worked within the beagle kennels at the company's Hillcrest and Wyton sites.

Filthy kennel units, covered in faeces, were documented and it was revealed how dogs were only given twenty-minutes exercise per week. Workers were also alleged to be kicking and punching dogs.

In response to calls for an emergency demonstration at their Wyton site, Harlan went to the High Court in London to gain an interim injunction limiting protest numbers and prohibiting the wearing of blood-stained clothing.

The demonstration went ahead and passed off with success. Following the time limit at the kennels expiring, campaigners headed to the nearby town of St Ives in order to create awareness of the beagle breeding farm on the doorstep.

An impromptu march was held through the town centre and fifty campaigners peacefully protested in the Market Square. Residents were showed much support for the demonstration.
