This year, NAVA revealed how shipments of beagles, primates, mini-pigs and rodents were being conducted through the Port of Dover in Kent.
Animals would either be transported in approved lorries or shipped in the cargo holds of ferries, unbeknown to passengers on the decks above.
Through a campaign of public pressure and boycott, NAVA has ensured that shipments of laboratory animals through Dover Docks have come to an end.
Companies operating out of the port, such as P&O Ferries and DFDS Seaways, now have official company policies of not transporting animals for research purposes. The port's only stevedores, George Hammond Plc, also refuse to handle or load laboratory animals.
We are now in a position to confirm that there are no animals for the research industry being transported through the Port of Dover.
NAVA would like to thank everybody who followed boycott calls, contacted those operating out of the port and took part in the campaign against Dover.
